1- Complaints and Legal Processes
The
First Senate Commission received 24 cases, including 12 cases of
complaints and 12 cases of legal proceedings. It forwarded 20 cases to
be handled by relevant authorities, and received explanations for 19
cases.

Meetings
Chairman of the First Senate Commission HE KIM SOKHA had talks with a
representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Office in
Cambodia and met for talks with representatives of the US Embassy on
human rights and commune election.
Vice Chairman of the First Senate Commission HE UNG TY met with
representatives of the Cambodia Daily.
On February 18th 2002, Chairman of the Second Senate
Commission HE CHEA PENG CHEANG had a meeting with delegates of the
European Union on “Trade and Development Partnership between the
European Union and Cambodia” at the Council for the Development of
Cambodia “CDC”.
Chairman of the Second Senate Commission HE CHEA PENG CHHEANG and members of the Ninth
Commission participated in a round-table debate on “Good Governance and
Civil Society in Cambodia”.
HE UNG SIM joined a round-table discussion on “the
Establishment of Parliamentary Role in Defense and Security in Cambodia”
at CDC.
Vice Chairman of the Sixth Senate
Commission HE KHIEU SAN joined a discussion on a
draft law on the establishment and functioning of the Commission for
National Human Rights.

OUK BUN CHHOEUN presided over a meeting to discuss the draft statute of
the Cambodian Senate Friendship Group with the Supreme Political Council
for the Chinese People’s High Assembly.
Chairman of the Ninth Senate Commission HE SABU BACHA met with an EU Trade Commissioner.

SABU BACHA attended a national conference on “Cambodian Policy,” mainly
focusing on immediate achievements and future orientations organized by
CICP at CDC.

Senators’ visits to localities
Members of
the Senate Commissions visited local people and took part in
inaugurations of various accomplishments in the following provinces and
towns:
Sway Rieng province, Khan Toul Kouk- Phnom Penh, Kandal province, Prey
Veng province, Kampong Thom province, Kampong Chham province, Battambang
province and Pai Lin town. They also officiated in ceremonies to
inaugurate roads in Siam Reap province and made an inspection tour of
Steung Chral hydroelectric plant construction site (in Kirirum).

Overseas Missions
On 21-25 February 2002, Chairman of the
First Senate Commission HE KEM SOKHA attended a meeting in the
Philippines on Asian Human Rights Mechanism.
Meetings Between Delegates of the French Senate and Cambodia-France
Friendship Group and APF members of the Senate of the Kingdom of
Cambodia on “Relationship between the Senate and Local Communities”.
On February 5th, 2002, a meeting was held between
Cambodia-France Friendship Group, APF Group and delegates of the French
Senate at the conference hall of the standing Committee at 9:05 A.M.
Opening the meeting, HE SEK SAM IET delivered a speech expressing warm
welcome to the attendants. He highly evaluated the discussion, which
helped bolster friendship between the two countries’ Senates. He also
availed himself of the opportunity to praise the French Senate
delegation for observing the commune election in Siam Reap province.
